Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

Of kick off the ninth episode, “Defeating an Upper-Rank Demon,” we were shown a flashback to Tengen Uzui and his three wives visiting the grave of their father, Tengen Uzui.

Even before they begin digging, Hinatsuru questions whether Uzui is thinking about his siblings, who were dead in the attack. Even though he says he never stops thinking about them, Uzui doesn’t go any further, leaving the impression that he was aware that he was headed to Hell and wanted to make the most of it.

Uzui pulls the cherry blossom petal from Hinatsuru’s hair before the end of the flashback is shown. Afterward, Hinatsuru requests to keep the petal, and the four exchange some lighthearted banter. Uzui and Gyutaro’s savage duel continues to stoke the fires of dread in the hearts of fans.

Gyutaro’s legs grew back quickly, despite Uzui ripping them off and infecting him with wisteria. The Upper-Rank demon, enraged by Uzui’s near-subjugation, fights even more viciously, forcing Uzui to match his ferocity. In the midst of his ferocity, he fails to realize that Gyutaro has taken his wife, Hinatsuru, in his arms instead of continuing the fight in front of him. In the midst of his desperation to find a method to reach her, Uzui recalls another special occasion between himself and his wives.

After slaying an Upper-Rank demon, the quartet discusses their hopes for a calm life away from the front lines before they all die at the same moment. Once again, Uzui snaps at the demon, demanding that it leave Hinatsuru be. Since his Hinokami Kagura technique is no longer enough to stop Gyutaro now that Uzui is disturbed by the demon’s antics, Tanjiro leaps into action. To Uzui and Hinatsuru’s delight, he manages to conjure up an inventive technique to use both his Hinokami Kagura and his Water Breathing Techniques in order to both release Hinatsuru and prolong the battle.

The battle between Daki and Inosuke and Zenitsu continues on the other side of the ring. With the beheading of Gyutaro just seconds away, Insokuke is growing increasingly irritated with himself for not being able to overcome his flaws sooner. Inosuke is reassured by Zenitsu, who urges him to continue fighting even after his friends have beheaded Gyutaro. Uzui once again falls under Gyutaro’s control despite Zenitsu’s words of encouragement.

Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and Inosuke have no choice but to join forces with their individual tactics to put an end to Daki once and for all as Gyutaro becomes even more clever. A combination of Water Breathing, Thunder Breathing, and Beast Breathing allowed Inosuke to reach so close that he could saw through Daki’s neck, severing her head once more.

Gyutaro suddenly impales Inosuke in the heart and reclaims his sister’s head just as the crew is on the verge of victory. When Tanjiro witnesses this, he runs around looking for Uzui and is shocked to see the Sound Hashira’s hand severed from his body. Finally, Zenitsu and Tanjiro are hit with yet another setback when they’re struck by a sudden, massive cut.

Injured members of our demon-hunting team will have a difficult time regaining their strength. How will Gyutaro and Daki be stopped? Is Tengen Uzui’s storey over? We expect a response to all of these questions in the near future, and we can’t wait to see how!
