It’s no surprise that Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff all but announced a sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, “Dune,” on October 21, the day before the film’s debut. According to Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros., “Dune: Part Two” has been given the green light by both studios.
I just received confirmation from Legendary on the development of ‘Dune: Part Two,'” Villeneuve said in a statement. It was always a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune,’ and I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who helped make it a reality, from the fans to the actors and crew to Legendary and Warner Brothers. Only a fraction of what’s to come.”
So, what’s next for the “Dune” series? Here, Independent Loud has compiled all of the most important information regarding “Dune: Part 2” currently available. The “Dune” sequel news will be added to the list below as additional information becomes available.
Dune 2 Release Date: When can we expect to see Dune Part Two?
We now have a firm date for the release of Dune: Part Two, which is set for October 20, 2023.
This time around, it’s likely that there would be no day-and-date streaming of the sequel in the US, unlike the first film, which was released on HBO Max the same day as it opened in theatres.
Villeneuve said in September 2021 that he was ready to go and that the first film would be out soon. A movie of this scope requires a lot of time to construct sets and costumes, so “we’re talking about months,” he said.
Fortunately, as he explained to Empire, “is largely planned. We’re benefiting from the fact that this is my first time revisiting a world. As a result, I’m working with the same group of people, and everyone is familiar with the project’s goals and intended appearance. The film will be more difficult, but we are prepared for it. As a result, the screenplay has been completed. So, I’m confident in myself. Honestly, the pandemic is the only thing I’m not sure about right now.”
He also stated that filming would commence in the summer of 2022. Despite the fact that we’d like to wait for the best version of Dune: Part 2 before returning to Arrakis in October 2023, we’re convinced that we will.
Dune Part 2 Cast – Who is in it?
Even while the cast has yet to be officially confirmed, based on their reactions to the sequel announcement, it appears like everyone is up for returning.
There will be a second film in the series with Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani, who we already knew would play a bigger role once Paul finally met Chani at the end of the first film.
“I want to learn and grow alongside the characters I play and the individuals I get to interact with on a daily basis. After reading the books, readers are well aware of what lies next “Deadline spoke with Zendaya.
There will also be a comeback for Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as his nephew Glossu Rabban in this new season.
According to Vanity Fair’s interview with Bardem, the sequel role was part of Villeneuve’s presentation to him, just like Zendaya.
“When asked if he had a modest role in the book’s second half, Villeneuve replied, “If there is such a thing, I would love for you to do it if you want to.” ‘Of course,’ I replied. As long as there’s no sequel, I’m happy “He was able to jog his memory.
But don’t expect to see Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, or Babs Olusanmokun back in the role of Duke Leto Atreides, Duncan Idaho or Jamis, since they were all murdered off in the first film.
If you’ve read the books, you’ll know that Momoa has the potential to return as Duncan Idaho later in the series, so maybe Villeneuve can find a way to include that into the sequel.
It’s not finished ’til the last girl sings, says editor Joe Walker to Collider. “Those who know the novel know that Duncan Idaho, for example, reappears.”
After House Harkonnen’s attack on Arrakis, the destinies of Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) and Thufir Hawat (Stephen McKinley Henderson) were left in limbo. Again, readers of the book will be aware of what transpired, so we’ll refrain from giving away any further details about what’s to come.
Feyd-Rautha, the Baron’s nephew who was played by Sting in the 1984 film, will also be introduced, as will the Emperor, who is expected to make an appearance.
Dune Part 2 Plot
The first film spanned around two-thirds of Herbert’s novel, concluding with Paul and Lady Jessica being welcomed into the Fremen and being on their way to Stilgar’s house.
We can expect to see more of Paul’s thoughts of a rebellion against the Empire come to reality in the sequel, as House Atreides has been largely annihilated.
Following his “initial impulse,” Villeneuve decided to conclude the film at that point, rather than the book’s time jump, which he had considered.
There were tantalising hints in Paul’s first film about what lies ahead for him as he struggles with his ultimate destiny and its possible connection to Chani and the Fremen of Arrakis, all thanks to his prophetic abilities.
The first part of the game had a lot of work to do in terms of setting up the universe, as we discussed in our review. Now that that footing has been laid, Villeneuve’s second film will be “an insane playground,” as he put it in a press release.
Feyd-Rautha will be revisited in the sequel, according to Villeneuve, who hinted that the sequel would delve “a little deeper into some of these elements.” He compared it to a game of chess. Characters from the second half will be presented.
“Much more Harkonnen stuff” will be in the sequel, he claims.
The original Dune novel was followed by five sequels, therefore Dune Part Two may not be the final chapter. In the meantime, Villeneuve is considering the possibility of bringing Dune Messiah to the big screen as well.
