As Samuel “Screech” Powers, the nerdy school outcast played by Dustin Diamond on Saved by the Bell became a household name in the 1990s. The sudden death of Diamond on February 20, 2021, shocked and dismayed everyone in entertainment.
Dustin Diamond was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in January 2021. Cancer killed the actor at 44 on February 1, 2021, after just one session of chemotherapy. Mario Lopez, Diamond’s Saved by the Bell co-star, said, “Dustin, you’ll be missed my buddy,” after Diamond’s death. It’s critical to keep in mind the fragility of life.
The actor is recognized for his portrayal of Samuel “Screech” Powers in the hit television series Friends. More than a decade before their cool counterparts dressed up as Elon Musk on Halloween, Screech provided a loving representation of science kids.
He was taken aback when he learned that he had been left out of the “Saved by the Bell” revival that premiered on Peacock last year. Diamond is alleged to have received the snub because of the bad press he has received.
Even the Sun reported that, according to him, fame’s dark side was the reason he put off seeing a doctor about a huge tumor on his neck, which turned out to be cancerous. Diamond hid the unattractive bulge from his close buddy, insurance tycoon Dan Block, because “he was concerned that someone might take pictures of it and put it online.” It’s hard to blame Screech, either. Before long, he was being smeared for having a “punchable face” by his detractors.
His last intentions included meeting Tool bassist Justin Chancellor and seeing the “Star Wars” exhibit in Florida, which Page Six reported on. It’s possible that Dustin “Screech” Diamond’s ultimate wishes were not fulfilled, but the evidence throughout the years shows that he lived a long and crazy life.
