His father died when he was still a toddler, prompting his mother to remarry Richard Caruso. Carson and his sister Quinn were determined to keep their father’s surname for the rest of their lives.
Daly’s boyhood aspirations for his life are vastly different from what he does now, as the TV host had hoped to become a professional golfer.
He enrolled at Loyola Marymount University after graduating from Santa Monica High School in 1991, where he had been a member of the varsity golf team. Soon after, he dropped out of school to pursue a career in professional golf.
- The Internship Was the Start of Daly’s Career in Broadcasting.
Daly transferred to the College of Desert in Palm Desert to begin his golf career. However, Daly has a generalized anxiety disorder, which has limited his ability to play golf. As a result, he needed to alter his life’s trajectory.
With so many options before him, Daly chose broadcasting and became an intern at the faculty’s radio station, KKUU FM (formerly KCMJ FM). In addition, he worked as an intern on Jimmy Kimmel’s debut radio show.
His first radio position was at the KOME radio station in San Jose, California. He was assigned to KROQ, KOME’s sister station, from 6 to 10 p.m. While working at KROQ, MTV approached him and soon hired him as a video jockey for Motel California, their summertime beachfront home program.
When his part-time contract with the media outlet expired, he was hired full-time as the host of MTV’s Total Request Live. This show was a mash-up of two previous shows, MTV Live and Total Request, on which he had worked.

They were in no hurry to get married when they finally started brazenly. After three children, the two decided to marry in 2015. Their first two children, Jackson and Etta, were born in 2009 and 2012. London, their third child, was born in 2014, while Goldie, the newest addition to the family, will be born in 2020. Daly has mentioned that being a father is his greatest passion.
