Fantasia was born on June 30, 1984, as Fantasia Monique Barrino in High Point, North Carolina. Her brothers Xavier and Ricco, together with parents Joseph and Diane, were her childhood companions.

Fantasia started singing when she was only 5 years old, and singing prowess runs in her family. Her uncles were members of the R&B group The Barrino Brothers, and her cousins, the Grammy-nominated R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, had a #1 hit with the 1998 single “All My Life.”
