Telemundo broadcast the awards live from Puerto Rico for the first time ever.
A wave of musicians, including Lunay, Nio Garcia, Maria Becerra, and Miky Woodz, gathered on Thursday for the 2022 Premios Tu Musica Urbano to honour the “rising urban trend that is prevailing over the world” (June 23).
The third iteration of the presentation, held at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico and broadcast live on Telemundo for the first time, honoured musicians in 34 categories. Special awards went to Farruko and Victor Manuelle, as well as the special Premio de la dedicación to them both.
Karol G was the night’s main winner, taking home nine honours, including artist of the year, best social artist, a tour of the year, and collaboration of the year with the Becky G-assisted “Mamiii.” Although Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro, and J Balvin were nominated the most—12, 11 nods each—they didn’t win.
Three albums were named album of the year in their respective categories: Daddy Yankee’s Legendaddy, Feid’s Intershibuya La Mafia, and Karol’s KG0516. The song of the year was “Qué Más Pues?” by J Balvin and Maria Becerra, while Bizarrap was named the best music producer. Other notable awards included Bad Bunny as the year’s top composer, “Qué Más Pues?”
