American actress Marlee Beth Matlin (August 24, 1965) is an author and activist. In addition to becoming the first deaf performer to win an Academy Award, Matlin was the youngest Best Actress winner ever for her role as Sarah Norman in the romantic drama film Children of a Lesser God (1986).
For her work in the police drama series Reasonable Doubts (1991–1993), Matlin was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. Her guest roles on Seinfeld (1993), Picket Fences (1993), The Practice (2000), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2004–05) earned her four nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards. The Satellite Award and the SAG Award were both nominated for her performance in CODA (2021).
