Mary Mara, 61, of “ER,” a drowned actress who was swimming in a river in New York
A spokesman for Mary Mara claims that she “drowned while swimming.”
On Sunday, June 26 in New York’s St. Lawrence River, actress Mary Mara “drowned while swimming.” She was 61 years old.
“A spokesperson for the “Law & Order” actress told Fox News Digital that Mary had passed away: “Her body was discovered this morning in her favorite St. Lawrence River. In the water, she perished.”
The representative continued: “I’ve met many talented actors, but Mary was one of the best. Her attitude on life was different, and she had a great sense of humor. She was the first performer I ever saw in Mad Forest in 1992, and I can still clearly recall it. She was unquestionably alluring, adored, and will be missed.”
On Sunday around 8:10 a.m., a report of a suspected drowning prompted the New York State Police to go to 33753 Old Farm Road in Cape Vincent, Jefferson County.
According to a department announcement, “a female deceased in the St. Lawrence River” was found by troopers and Cape Vincent Fire and Ambulance when they arrived on the site.
61-year-old Mary T. Mara from Cape Vincent, New York, has been named as the victim.
Initial inquiries indicated that Mara drowned while swimming and that her body had “no evidence of foul play.”
According to a New York State Police press statement, she was subsequently “transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy to ascertain an official cause of death.”

Mara was allegedly staying at her sister’s vacation home, according to a family spokesperson. In the Thousand Islands area, where St. Lawrence divides Canada and the U.S., the property has a riverfront location outside of the Village of Cape Vincent.
Mara’s death is still under investigation.
Mara, a native of New York, started her career in the entertainment sector in the late 1980s. She has since been often on shows including “Nash Bridges,” “NYPD Blue,” “Hope & Gloria,” and “The Practice.”
On “Love Potion #9,” she collaborated with Sandra Bullock; on “The Hard Way,” with Michael J. Fox; on “Mr. Saturday Night,” with Billy Crystal; on “A Civil Action,” with John Travolta; and on “Criminal Minds” and “True Colors,” with Mandy Patinkin.
She co-starred with William Hurt in a Yale Repertory Theatre production of Anton Chekhov’s “Ivanov” in 1990. She made her acting debut in 1989 alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Jeff Goldblum, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Gregory Hines in a New York Shakespeare Festival production of “Twelfth Night.”
Ray Donovan, Shameless, Dexter, and Lost are four well-known television programs in which Mara contributed to episodes.
In 2020’s “Break Even,” a movie, she made her final appearance.
Aside from her stepdaughter Katie Mersola, Mara is also survived by her sister Martha Mara, another sister Susan Mara and Scott Dailey, a brother-in-law Scott Dailey, and a nephew Christopher Dailey.
