Kal Penn

‘Santa Clause’ Series at Disney Plus Adds Kal Penn

Variety has reported that Kal Penn will appear in a limited series of “Santa Clause” on Disney Plus.

Announcing the series on Jan. 14, Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell will reprise their roles as Santa Claus/Scott Calvin and Carol Calvin, Scott’s wife, respectively. “The Santa Clause 2” and “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” saw Mitchell reprise his role as Santa Clause.

This season sees the character of Scott Calvin approaching his 65th birthday, recognizing he can no longer be Santa Claus. In addition to his duties as Santa, he has two children who have grown up at the North Pole, and he is losing his ability to perform them. Scott has a lot of elves, kids, and family members he wants to please, so he sets out to find a good replacement Santa while also preparing his family for a new adventure in life south of the pole.

Simon Choksi has been cast in Penn’s role. As a game and product innovator and a loving single father, Simon can talk the tech mogul talk, but he lacks the ability to actually walk the walk. When you visit the North Pole, everything changes.

Executive producer and showrunner Jack Burditt (who produced the Allen-led comedy series “Last Man Standing”) will work on the “The Santa Clause” series. Allen will also serve as executive producer and star in the film. Small Dog Picture Company has hired Jason Winer to direct and Jon Radler to executive produce. In addition, Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina are executive producers.

20th Television will produce the Disney-branded television series. The show’s production will get underway in March.

The news that Penn has joined the Disney Plus sitcom “The Santa Clause” was first published by Deadline.
