The fifth season will begin airing in March 2021. The first season of The Flash was filmed on 16 mm film, with digital conversion beginning in season two. Starting with the six additional episodes from season 10, the series transitioned from 16 mm to digital. The COVID-19 epidemic, as well as concerns about safety owing to the fact that digital has fewer contact points than film, prompted the transition.
