Phil Collins‘ health appeared to rapidly deteriorate.
Collins went from an active drummer who used to headbang in all of his songs to looking frailer than ever when he recently appeared in front of his fans. During Mike Rutherford and Rony Banks’ gig in Berlin, Germany, the 71-year-old vocalist sat with them throughout the program.
While Collins has been forthright about the reason behind his inability to play the drums, the singer has also dealt with more serious health difficulties that have had an impact on his career.

Phil Collins is Afflicted with What Illness?
Collins has had a slew of health concerns in the last decade, starting with broken vertebrae in his upper neck in 2009.
He was injured while performing, and the injury left him with terrible nerve damage in his hands.
He had surgery to restore his vertebrae, but he lost feeling in his fingers and could only handle drumsticks with taped hands.
He was soon unable to continue playing the drums, which had made him famous.

Genesis Discusses Collin’s Health Concerns
“Somehow, during the last Genesis tour, I dislocated some vertebrae in my top neck, and that damaged my hands,” Collins stated in a message on the Genesis website at the time.
“Even after a successful neck operation, my hands are still unable to work normally.”
“Perhaps in a year or so it will change, but for now I am unable to play the drums or the piano.”
Collins said in his 2016 book that he had struggled with alcoholism following his retirement and divorce from his third wife, but that he had been sober for three years.
He claimed that he is a type 2 diabetic who was treated with a hyperbaric chamber after getting a diabetic abscess on his foot that became inflamed the following year.
The singer had to cancel two gigs in 2017 after slipping in his hotel room and banging his head on a chair, requiring stitches for a nasty gash near his eye.
The incident was caused by ‘foot drop,’ a problem Collins had following his back surgery and for which he now wears orthopedic shoes.
He now walks with the aid of a cane and performs on stage while sitting in a chair.
Collins also has acute pancreatitis, which causes the pancreas to swell and become inflamed over a brief amount of time.
“Within months, you’re drinking vodka from the fridge in the morning and falling over in front of the kids, you know,” he said at a news conference in 2016.
“But it was something I went through, and I was fortunate to survive it.”
“I was on the verge of death.”

Will Phil Collins Continue to Perform on The Road?
Collins had stated that this is likely to be his final tour due to his ongoing health concerns.
Despite the emotional nature of the night, the artist seemed upbeat at the last act at London’s O2 on Saturday.
“It’s the last stop on our tour, and it’s the last gig for Genesis,” he addressed the crowd. We all need to acquire real jobs after tonight.”
Lily, his actress daughter, was at the venue to support her father on a special night, posting a photo of herself backstage perched on some touring equipment.
