Louis Arthur Charles, known as Prince Louis of Cambridge, is a member of the British royal family who was born on April 23, 2018. He is the third and youngest child of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as well as their second son. He is the fifth in line to the British throne.
On April 23, 2018, Prince Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, was born at 11:01 BST (10:01 UTC) to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The birth was commemorated on April 24th with gun salutes from the Tower of London and Hyde Park, as well as bell ringings from Westminster Abbey. The infant was named Louis Arthur Charles on April 27, 2018, after his paternal great-great-granduncle Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, and his paternal grandpa Charles, Prince of Wales, respectively.
The Archbishop of Canterbury christened Louis on July 9, 2018, in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, using Jordan River water, as is customary. Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, Hannah Gillingham Carter, and Lucy Middleton serve as his godparents.
He wore a reproduction of Queen Victoria’s royal christening gown, which was manufactured in 2008 as a replica of the 1841 garment designed for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter Victoria, Princess Royal, and was used for every royal christening until it was withdrawn for preservation in 2004.

Although it was Queen Elizabeth’s first appearance on the balcony in years, it was Prince Louis who stole the show during Trooping the Colour, when he joined other members of the royal family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch the show, including his grandparents Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cambridge, and his siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The four-year-old wore the identical small sailor suit that his father wore to Trooping the Colour when he was two years old in 1985.
During a particularly loud flypast involving 70 military planes, Louis was photographed alternating between happily waving at the crowd, pulling faces, protecting his ears and screaming while standing on the balcony with the rest of the royal family.
The young royal also watched the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which wrapped up the weekend, from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, where he threw a tantrum. He was seen putting his tongue out and shushing his mother at one point, provoking a sharp response from Kate, before moving on to sit on his father and grandfather’s laps.
Prince Andrew is Princess Anne’s son-in-law. Mike Tindall also appeared to be attempting to corral Louis, pointing to both of his eyes as a warning that he was monitoring him, eliciting a laugh from the Duchess. After that, Louis seemed to rapidly calm down, going from sulking to giving his mother some loving embraces and kisses.
